What is Nickel Alloy?

Nickel alloys are metallic materials in which nickel is the primary alloying base, combined with elements such as chromium, molybdenum, iron, copper and other alloying elements to achieve specific performance properties. These alloys are known for their excellent corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength and resistance to demanding chemical environments.

Nickel-based materials are widely used where conventional stainless steels may not provide sufficient resistance to corrosion, heat or aggressive process conditions. Their ability to maintain mechanical strength and structural stability at elevated temperatures makes them suitable for critical industrial applications.

Property Nickel Alloy Performance
Base Element Nickel is the primary alloying base
Corrosion Resistance Excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation and aggressive chemical environments
High-Temperature Performance Maintains strength and stability under elevated-temperature conditions
Chemical Resistance Suitable for demanding chemical and corrosive process environments
Mechanical Properties High strength, toughness and good resistance to deformation depending on grade
Typical Use Used in demanding applications requiring corrosion resistance, heat resistance and long-term reliability

Nickel alloys are selected according to the specific operating conditions, including temperature, pressure, chemical composition, corrosion mechanism, mechanical requirements and applicable ASTM or ASME specifications. Common nickel alloy families include Nickel 200 and Nickel 201, as well as high-performance alloys such as Inconel, Monel and other nickel-based materials used for specialized applications.

Nickel Alloy Grades Available

Nickel 201 N02201 2.4068 Low carbon nickel grade for elevated temperature applications

Nickel Alloy Products We Supply

Nickel 200 vs Nickel 201

Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 are commercially pure nickel grades with excellent corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties. The main difference between them is their carbon content. Nickel 201 has a lower carbon content, which makes it better suited for certain elevated-temperature applications where carbon-related embrittlement can be a concern.

Property Nickel 200 Nickel 201
UNS Number N02200 N02201
W.Nr. 2.4066 2.4068
Carbon Content Higher Lower
High-Temperature Service More limited at elevated temperatures Better suited for certain elevated-temperature applications
Corrosion Resistance Excellent Excellent
Typical Applications Chemical processing, food processing and caustic service Chemical processing and applications requiring lower carbon content at elevated temperatures

The lower carbon content of Nickel 201 makes it preferable to Nickel 200 for certain applications involving elevated temperatures. Nickel 200 is widely used where excellent corrosion resistance and resistance to caustic alkalis are required, while Nickel 201 can be selected when lower carbon content is important for the operating conditions. Final grade selection should be based on temperature, chemical environment, mechanical requirements and applicable ASTM or ASME specifications.

Nickel 200 & Nickel 201 Applications

Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 are used in industrial applications where excellent corrosion resistance, alkali resistance, purity and reliable mechanical performance are required. The suitable grade depends on the operating temperature, chemical environment and specific application requirements.

Application Suitable Grade Key Requirement
Chemical Processing Nickel 200 / Nickel 201 Corrosion resistance
Caustic Handling Nickel 200 / Nickel 201 Alkali resistance
Food Processing Nickel 200 Purity and corrosion resistance
Pharmaceutical Equipment Nickel 200 / Nickel 201 Corrosion resistance and material purity
Heat Exchangers Nickel 200 / Nickel 201 Thermal and corrosion performance
Marine Equipment Nickel 200 / Nickel 201 Corrosion resistance

Nickel 200 is commonly selected for applications requiring commercially pure nickel with excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in caustic and chemical environments. Nickel 201, with its lower carbon content, can be preferred for certain elevated-temperature applications. Final grade selection should be based on the actual operating conditions, chemical media, temperature, mechanical requirements and applicable ASTM or ASME specifications.
